In this episode of Penny for Your Shots, I had the pleasure of speaking with Alexis Goodwin, the dynamic general manager of Blanco River Hotel in Blanco, Texas. Alexis’s journey from Michigan to Texas, her passion for hospitality, and her insights into the vibrant Texas Hill Country set the stage for an inspiring and informative conversation. As the home base for our upcoming Wine Camp 2024, Blanco River Hotel offers a blend of boutique charm, community connection, and access to the heart of Texas wine country.

Discovering Texas Hill Country

Nestled in one of the most picturesque regions in the U.S., Texas Hill Country is a wine lover’s paradise. The area boasts the third-largest American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the country, with over 9 million acres and more than 100 wineries. The renowned 30-mile stretch of Highway 290 between Johnson City and Fredericksburg alone features more than 30 wineries, making it an ideal destination for tastings and tours.

"The Hill Country offers so much to explore—from award-winning wines to distilleries, breweries, and charming small towns," Alexis shared.

For Wine Camp 2024 attendees, Blanco River Hotel is the perfect launch pad for an unforgettable weekend of wine, food, and fun.

Alexis’s Hospitality Journey

Originally from Michigan, Alexis discovered her passion for hospitality during her time at Northwood University, where she majored in hospitality management and participated in a transformative study abroad program in Europe. After graduation, she embraced growth opportunities across the U.S., eventually settling in Texas.

"I’ve always said yes to new opportunities, no matter where they led. That’s how I’ve grown, learned, and connected with amazing people," Alexis explained.

Now as the general manager of Blanco River Hotel, Alexis brings her experience and enthusiasm to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests. The hotel’s recent renovations—including upgraded rooms, a redesigned pool area, and plans for a new bar—reflect her commitment to enhancing the guest experience.
