Podcasting isn’t just about sharing stories; it’s about creating connections, learning from one another, and growing together. In this special episode of Penny for Your Shots, I teamed up with my incredible accountability pod—affectionately known as "The Fab Four." Comprising Alison Fraser, Becca Ingersoll, Robin Hackney, and me, this group has been a source of inspiration, laughter, and motivation since we first met in Cathy Heller’s podcasting class. Together, we explored our journeys, goals, and passions, and we’re excited to share them with you.

Meet The Fab Four

  • Alison Fraser: A journalist-turned-podcaster based in New Zealand, Alison runs two shows: Women Who Podcast and Our Scotland. She’s passionate about inspiring more women to podcast and sharing stories about Scotland.
  • Becca Ingersoll: A mother to special needs twins, Becca’s podcast, Finding Joy Through Life’s Trials, offers hope and support to parents navigating challenging circumstances.
  • Robin Hackney: Fitness coach and host of Spandex and Wine, Robin is all about helping women find balance in life while enjoying good wine. She’s also collaborating with me on an exciting retreat in Texas Hill Country in 2024.
  • Penny Fitzgerald: That’s me! Host of Penny for Your Shots, where I share cocktails and conversations with brilliant women, celebrating their stories and inspiring others.

Strength in Accountability

Since last fall, we’ve met every Wednesday to brainstorm, challenge each other, and stay on track with our goals. This episode was our first recorded group conversation, where we answered fun and thought-provoking questions, many of which we typically ask our podcast guests. The result? Insightful, surprising, and downright entertaining revelations.

On Exercise and Mental Health

The Fab Four discussed how we stay active, each sharing unique approaches:

  • Alison found her love for walking and running after moving to New Zealand, carving out time for 2-kilometer daily walks or runs.
  • Becca uses exercise to support her mental health, favoring walks with friends or yoga to maintain balance.
  • Penny (Me!) enjoys golf, Pilates, and solitary walks paired with inspiring podcasts.
  • Robin emphasized strength training’s importance, blending it with walking for a mental reset.

Finding Joy in Everyday Moments

When asked what brings us joy, the answers were a testament to the power of connection, nature, and shared experiences:

  • Alison loves being in nature, exploring forests, and indulging in fun activities like ice cream crawls with friends.
  • Becca finds joy in reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband binge-watching favorite shows.
  • Robin cherishes family game nights, outdoor adventures, and "glimmers"—small moments of peace and gratitude.
  • I thrive on connection, whether it’s sharing wine and laughter with friends or soaking in the peace of the beach.

Big Dreams for Our Podcasts

Each of us shared our aspirations for our podcasts in five years:

  • Becca hopes to become a published author and public speaker, using her podcast to support her writing journey.
  • Robin aims to continue empowering women, make meaningful connections, and achieve financial freedom in her fitness business.
  • Alison wants to expand her community of women podcasters and add a travel element to her Our Scotland podcast.
  • Penny (Me!): My goal is to inspire women to pursue their dreams, embrace their stories, and create a ripple effect of empowerment.

A Toast to Connections

No Penny for Your Shots episode is complete without sharing our favorite drinks and memories:

  • Alison fondly recalled Bailey’s nights with friends after cricket matches in the UK.
  • Becca shared how mocktails brought her and a friend together during her son’s cancer treatment.
  • Robin reminisced about a floating tiki bar adventure in Florida, complete with dolphins and great music.
  • I shared how I choose my drinks based on the moment, pairing wine with food or creating unique cocktails for friends.

Closing Thoughts: The Power of Community

Our Fab Four conversation reinforced how much we’ve grown together as podcasters, women, and friends. Whether it’s through accountability calls, shared laughs, or brainstorming sessions, we’ve learned the value of lifting each other up.

Here’s to the journeys ahead—for our podcasts, our lives, and the stories yet to be told.

Cheers to community, connection, and creating something meaningful together!
